Volunteers are utilized at both the Eddie V. Gray Wetlands Education Center and the Baytown Nature Center, Baytown’s environmental education jewels. The sister sites hold a joint orientation/basic training in the early fall each year at the Wetlands Center.
Volunteer training begins with Orientation, which covers the mission, history, facilities and future of the two centers. Prospective volunteers will learn about the centers’ programs and the type of help needed. Following that, participants who wish to work with the environmental field tripsand other programmingattend the Basic Training session. Volunteers are needed to teach and assist with these programs. Further training with experienced volunteers occurs when student field trips to the Wetlands Center and Nature Center begin in September. Previous teaching experience is not required, but is helpful. All the basic information for each program is provided.
The Eddie V. Gray Wetlands Education Center and Baytown Nature Center appreciate all help towards furthering our mission. Our volunteers have a passion for the environment, enjoy working with children, and strive to make a difference in their community.
